CREDIT UNION SCHOOLS SAVINGS SCHEME

27th Sep 2022

Carnglen Credit Union currently operates a school savings scheme within some of our local
schools.
How it works:
If a child already has an account with us, they can bring their book with their savings to
school on a Tuesday morning and leave them in a designated area i.e., Reception. We then
collect them, mark up their book and return them to the school that day.
If they do not have credit union account a parent/guardian* can call into our office to open one
for them. They will need:
• The child’s long birth certificate or passport.
• A letter with the parent/guardian’s name and address that is dated within the last 3
months, e.g., a bank statement or a utility bill.
• Valid photographic ID (Passport/Driving Licence) for the parent/guardian.
*If the child is age 7 or over, they must be present to open the account as well as be
present for any withdrawals carried out on the account.
The aim is to teach the child about saving from a young age and promote independence.
Please be aware that the school staff do not handle any monies.
