Celebrating Holy Week at Home

by Thérèse Ferry

Holy Week is the most sacred, special and important week of the year. Travel with Jesus through Holy Week Journey together as a family through the events of Holy Week. Sing Hosanna with Jesus as he enters into Jerusalem on a donkey, share a meal with him at the Last Supper with his apostles. Walk with him and comfort him on the Way of the Cross on Good Friday. Wait at the Tomb on Holy Saturday and rejoice at his rising from the dead, on Easter Sunday.

Here are some ideas you might like to use for Holy Week.

  1. Put greenery in your window on Palm Sunday.
  2. Follow the Chrism Mass from the Cathedral on Thursday at 10am
  3. Put a Cross in your window on Good Friday.
  4. Ask God’s blessing on water and have a Renewal of Baptismal Promises on Holy Saturday night or Easter Sunday, each family having a bowl of water, a twig for a Blessing Ceremony and the text of the Renewal of Baptismal Promises.
  5. Come out at 9.00 pm – or other time - on Holy Saturday and shine their mobile phone torch.
  6. Develop an Easter Garden in their window, porch or even garden.
